Ahhhh the great paintball debate, what to do what to do. On one hand we have Woodsball and the other Speedball. If you are a new player just getting started, you might want to know which of the 2 to focus on and which markers work best for the particular style. Ill begin with the former. Woodsball is a sport where the key is strategy and cameoflage. Staying hidden is key and noone would dress in a bright neon color playing this. So wouldnt it make sense that you should NOT have a bright neon colored speedball marker for woodsball. You will stick out like a sore thumb. Another idea to ponder on is what marker you should buy. IF you are playing Woodsball your marker should be durable and plain in color, preferably black. So what marker covers these conditions. The Tippmann series markers. They are totally black, and are built like a rock. If you are running around in the dirt and bumping into trees, you want a marker that one break and these certainly will not. I actually ran over my Tippmann a-5 one time (stupid misteak hehe) and it was complete unharmed. These will stay ship shape no matter what.
If your goal is to play speedball then the color of marker and the way you dress is mostly irrelavent. The idea behind speedball is to bum rush the other team and stay covered as much as possible. There is no real way to hide, there is no real way stay quiet. From the start to the finish you will be firing constantly. Better have pods for this sport, that is for sure. The key is to outflank and just outshoot the other team. Make sure you have an egrip for this game type if you can afford it. It's about 100 dollars or so but you will fire full auto and it will be a godsend in speedball and woodsball.
Personally I preferr woodsball to speedball because it is the most strategic form of paintball. Outflanking and Good cover are a key to winning. Also you have to use your skill as a woodsman to find good hiding spots and to find good cover to shoot your marker. This exhilarting game is by far my favorite. Either way, its a great sport, get out there, and have fun!
